"CROSSROADS" ........ Well this is the apt title for the farewell ceremony that is held every year and I was present for the one that was held last year. Well what this phase represented was a transition from a student to a working engineer. But more understandably, its the end of the phase when all the nurture that we got from all souces around ends..... When the age old dialogue " Stand on one's own legs" becomes true........ But hey life as I see it terminates at one point with 2 routes >>>>>>>>>> Good or Bad........
But whats Good or whats Bad .... Well again this is a fundamental question and thinking in a very logical point of view you would conclude that these are relative. As Beauty lies in eye of the beholder , Same case here. Things which seem good in my eyes may not be with others......
Since I am equally diplomatic let me add that there is nothing good or bad... However by means of several experimentation our ancestors have given us a moral code of conduct ...... A social framework or legislation to restrict our behaviour as responsible people should do. And any activity which doesnt belong to this domain where correctly and morally judged as being BAD.........
But then with the exposure .... the thirst for knowledge ...... The feeling of youth( I know I am one too and at all points I am talking about myself too)...... Is a 23 year old earning 30k per month in Blore able to handle himself within this code.........
I dont know ..... Is it the youth at blame or is it the society at large to blame... But one thing is for sure my generation was spoilt by my older Generation and the same pattern continues .....

The Classification Of Teachers In Animal Kingdom
While the following passage is intended for me to post the feelings that lay hidden in me and for my grey matter to start the thinking process. No punditry is intended and research on the topic remains in my head yet the following document is protected by law. Now I shall be using an extension of Bionomial Nomenclature called Polynomial Nomenclature with the four words in them describing the genus, species, subspecies, specific subspecies.
1. Homo sapiens academia supremex
The characteristics of this specific sub species is that the young members belong to a category of shirt inserted, gentlemen. While their brain shines with the power of 13 suns put together. More of this kind when subject to a contest under ideal conditions may even go to the extent of killing one another. However under controlled conditions there is a vast difference in the inference such that the whole thing could be restricted to the more superior being trying to mark its territory and minimal damage to the less superior being(inferior beings dont exist in this subspecies). The females of this category are characterised by ugliness( conforming to the popular law that Beauty*Brains=A constant). Many subspecies have also survived for long , characterised by white hairs all over and have lost some genuine qualities like shirts tucked in, though they have retained their knowledge factor.
2. Homa sapiens academia domesticus
The characteristic of this sub species is that the knowledge they have gained through years have made them arrogant. They are quick to respond to problems happening in campus and intend to be in the limelight. While the quest for acceptance among people of academia have made them quite infamous among students. They enjoy the fact very much too. A few members of this sub species due to environmental conditions have evolved to the first category in the passage of time. Though the proces is extremely slow and restricted to iit's a sort of trickling down effect is being spotted in recent days in other universities too.
3. Homo sapiens academia virginianus
This is the largest sub species. Males of this category show extreme dominance when in company with a Female. However their knowledge transcends gender and equally they belong to the sort of category that fails to distinguish the teacher from the students. While some members do accept their ignorance while some take category 2 as their source of inspiration and may get elated to their status in due couse of time. Most belong to the young, fresh minds of the country and can be easily categorised as married or unmarried.
A Small Voyage Through Time
I still remember the very sight of those sugar coated cumin seeds ( jeeraga mithai : MALAYALAM) would bring immense amount of happiness in a person like me when I was abt 8 yrs old. Well assuming that these so called delicacies where made out of permitted colours (or even otherwise) , we would take no time in devouring them much to the agony of the person who brought it( cause he would be left with nothing but the cover). Anyway today I dont think the children of my age then, would even look for one such thing as jeera mithai. But when my brother brought a packet of that I just lost myself in disbelief whether in the world dominated by Mars, Snickers etc.....my indian cousin made from cumin would survive. But the fact it it did .......though there is not a big difference in taste I guess it was a verification of the new age policy of discard the old and pave way for the new. But ultimately if its new or old whatever to come (diabetes....etc.etc.etc) will.....

A Verse Or A Voice

Heard my mema(aunty, mothers younger sister) once recite these lines when we were sitting for prayer. Well as a good nephew would do , I did lend my ear but believe me today i dont know whether my ears lent themselves or I did cause that . What can i say unless you comprehend these beautiful lines from GITANJALI by RABINDRANATH TAGORE
This is a prayer to thee, my lord
Strike, strike at the penury in my heart
Give me the strength to bear my joys and sorrows
Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service
Give me the strength never to disown the poor or bend my knees before insolent might(/*the words of an intellect, worth a tear*/)
Give me the strength to raise my mind high above daily trifles
And give me the strength to surrender my strength to thy will with love.
Well being an Indian and the introduction to the translations by Yeats will definitely give you a feeling to rethink your heritage.

The Dilemma
Well to be frank you could call me a half engineer as long as you know nothing about engineering cause even i dont know what engineering is. Till now I have realised that the infinite amount of information contained in each of the topics so far taught or learnt(often learnt as teaching and listening are quite a dream) that the so called degree that we earn after a 4 year stint at college trying to weld together the technical ability and submissiveness(being in a university I realise the importance of this if I am to complete my course in 4 years) and the industry requirement is quite different
Even if you dont believe me, technology is so advanced that all that the industry expects is a bunch of guys who know ohms law and resistance equations well.....(you can check with many of the placement papers)...........
So what does it indicate that a guy knowing Resistance equations and Ohms law is the best engineer out there......
Well to answer the question lets look a few years back when the so called Entrance fever was running high. I had a friend of mine who wrote KEAM( medical,2006) and got near about 3000. Well he was stuck to the idea of getting an MBBS in his CV and decided to repeat the entrance coaching and he came out last year with a rank of 200 which took him to an elite college . Now this year could transform this person suddenly into a guy of great intellect, knowledge or is it???
Well dear brothers and sisters an entance exam scorer doesnt indicate how good of an engineer or doctor you have in you. It indicates that you have the finanial ability to get into some good coaching institute and get good rank...........
Similarly there is a lot of things a college can do, it could virtually transform even a mediocre person into a very talented student in the domain.........
dont forget as is said "it is what you get out of the college that matters not what the college gets out of you"......

A Lesson I Learnt

These 4 lines are perhaps the most commonly found lines from the Bhagvat Gita. Atleast these lines are the ones that an average indian like me would know. They are:
yadha yadha hi dharmasya
glanirva bhavathi bharatha
abyuthanam adharmasya
tadatmanam shrejami aham
Whenever there is decay
of righteousness o! bharatha
and a rise of unrighteousness
then i manifest myself
Now to understand these lines (which even I did lately) one must realise that Shri krishna was absolutely right. Now taking a philosophical account of these lines ( which infact requires one to imbibe the concept of tatvamasi- A word with power of an infinite reservoir, the concept that tells you that we and the universe(god) are one and the same). So, what god meant is when there is a loss of dharma in the world, when adharma triumphs, god will take human form. Hence with the equality of everyone with the Ishvara, it is not that god will take a seperate human form. It is infact the inner consciousness that provokes good (righteousness) that is what is a manifestation of god. So, it is the so called "inner voice" that we refer to colloquially that Lord Krishna was referring to. Now, this is the only way that we can fight the devil within us(the second mind that provokes us to do bad).
So if anyone has seen me do good remember it is the god within me that provoked me to do so and when I do something wrong it is me and i take full responsibility. So signing off with a prayer.
God forgive me for the infinite number of mistakes that I have done, I am doing and I keep repeating. You are the good in me but I fail to realise you many a times cause I am an ordinary human being.

INDIANESS THE DEFINITION FOR PATRIOTISM
Aha!!! found that topic i anticipated for quite sometime. Maybe because i miss being in india thats why i am writing this. What india as a country presents to me (ok apart from bollywood and indian cricketers that you all know about) is the so called "Indianess"(taking inspiration from the movie You, Me and Dupree). Wow!! the word has got that melody to it. Anyway my country inspite of the geographic diversity, the lingual diversity or the ethnic diversity(well by the way i am a Hindu Nedungadi from kerala so that makes me a malayalee, Indian and we are Aryans that makes me a Persian or a European and the whole human race is supposed to have originated from a single man possibly an African so that makes me the final destination of a group of people who are from 3 different continents. Amazing!!!!,) thrives only because we as a group of people living in the world largest democracy are united. Well ,I wonder how many people actually realise that we live in a state where in we have the namboodiris on one hand living with the mohammeds and the chackos side by the side. I mean maybe apart from the time we have prayers or we are lost in some spiritual trance the very idea of religion never crops up. At all times we remain Indian. Maybe this discussion is very well exemplified by the selfless behaviour of the people after the horrible Mumbai blasts that left hundreds dead and many injured. That time we didnt bother about anything, anyone whether Kith or Kin whether Hindu or Muslim ....................
Thats what true patriotism is "Selfless Service For Any True Cause In The Name Of Our Country"..........
Have a beautiful day
